Aeronautical Mechanical Analyses Angineer [Work-study contract]

Blagnac, France - ECM ECM

During my engineering placement at ECM in Blagnac, I was responsible for the dimensioning and optimisation of aeronautical structures and equipment, with a strong focus on finite element modelling using Hypermesh and static, modal, and buckling analyses via Nastran. I developed and deployed several Python-based pre- and post-processing tools, which were adopted by the structural analysis team and led to a significant increase in the efficiency of FE simulation workflows. Additionally, I took charge of creating a comprehensive Static Test Plan for critical A350 equipment, contributing directly to the project's validation and certification processes.

Space structures mechanical engineer

Mecano-ID MECANO ID - Toulouse, France

Part of my gap year, I worked at MECANO ID as a mechanical calculation engineer for satellites and space equipments. Projects were various and gave me a complete learning of space structures designs. Most of my activity at MECANO ID focused on the structural trade-off between multiple technologies and designs part of the developpement of a new concept of paiload fairing for future space launchers. The very rigorous methodology developed at MECANO ID, throughout efficient routines, concerning the mechanical calculation allowed me to learn deeply the way MSC Nastran software works, and how to get 100% of its power. I also learned Patran to pre- and post-process the runs results. This first experience in the industrial world was incredibly fulfilling and brought me a lot of knowledge.

[Internship] Optimisation of Paraseismic Experimental Structure

Geneva, Switzerland - CERN CERN

Seismic fragility assesment of the SHiP Decay Vessel structure.

SHiP Experiment aims at exploring the Hidden Particles sector. The decay vessel is a long structural steel hollow structure allowing the hidden particles to decay into Standard Model elementary particles to be detected. This very massive structure is expected to lay on the floor in a possible future underground facility at CERN, where the seismic activity is non-negligible. The dynamic analysis of the SHiP decay vessel is then an important step in the structural assessment of this part of the detector.

The mechanical dynamic analyses were accompanied by a set of experimental design values (using the Latin Hypercube Sampling) representing manufacturing, geometrical and even input loads uncertainties. Seismic assessment of the decay vessel finaly is conducted in order to optimize the geometrical and structural design of this structure.

PEMFC Reseach Project

ICA Clement Ader Institute - Toulouse, France

In the context of the electrification of land and air transport means, and especially the electrification of their propulsion system, Fuel Cells are one of the main contender for providing the required electrical energy. One of the most mature technology in this area that seems to step up is the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC).

Most of the time, the fuel cell itself is surrounded by thermal components, compressor, pumps, humidifier, valves, etc, mandatory for the operation of a PEMFC. The operation of this system is very related to the electrical power demand as well as the environmental conditions (air temperature, pressure, humidity). All these factors render this system a perfectly multiphysical system.

The Research Project consists of designing/preliminary sizing such a system. It can be challenging due to multiple interactions between the different physics involved in the system. Also, the choice of the operating point of the fuel cell is of utmost importance as is greatly determines the final sizing and performance of the whole system.

Aeronautical Engineering Project

Toulouse, France & Loughborough, UK - Independent FB

Invention, reaserch, development, and implementation of a new angle of attack measurement technology for light aircraft. Theory developed from the equations of fluid mechanics (self-taught). Application of flight mechanics. Design of CAD models using SOLIDWORKS, meshing and analysing data. Designing, dimensioning and tolerancing for machining prototypes. Behaviour modelling and analysis in a fluid environment using ANSYS Fluent. Project and management, create schedules, flow charts. Registration of Intellectual Property Rights.

Olfactory diffuser

JIS Junior INSA Services - Toulouse, France

While studying at INSA Toulouse, I was selected by the Junior Entreprise of my school to carry out my first engineering mission. During more than 4 months, I led alone a project commissioned by the French marketing company MIDISCOM. In regular contact with the client, I designed for them the mechanical structure of an olfactory diffuser. Carrying out this project in a completely autonomous way gave me a complete overview of how to manage a project from the elaboration of the technical specifications to its delivery.
